I am excited about this post, because I'm gonna reveal MANS who are much more prettier, sexier, bigger (boobs), slimmer than US! Yes, they are she-males/kathoey/ladyboys/transsexuals/tranny/ah-kua, whatever you want to call them.
Thailand are famous for this third gender - the she-males. "The term kathoey or katoey (Thai: กะเทย, IPA) generally refers to a male-to-female transgender person or an effeminate gay male in Thailand". (extracted from Wikipedia, my truly best pal)
Yay... we are going to watch Calypso Cabaret Show, the most famous she-males show in Thailand. If you are in Bangkok and never watched this kind of show before, this a MUST in your itinerary.
However, spare yourselves from Thai-Girl Show (more affectionately called as the "Tiger Show"). Yay, seriously! Imagine the girls played ping-pong, blowed horns, changed clear water into Cola, can opener, blow darts, pulled razor blades tied on string and played with goldfishes/turtle/birds with their VAGINA!!! Yes! Everything. With. Their. VAGINA! For clearer information, you can read a blogger's experience on Thai-Girl Show. One word - GROSS! :o
Frankly, I rather be seeing she-males than females who does magic with their vagina.
Alright, enough of vagina, back to the show.

Alright, enough of vagina, back to the show.
We dressed up nicely for the show ;)
But first, we gotta have dinner as we are so hungry! This lil' cozy cafe is located across Asia Hotel.
Fragrant Fried Rice, 40 Baht.
(Notice that stalk of spring onion? Yes, I gobbled it down too.)
Fried Rice Noodle, 45 Baht.
Ticket price: 1,200 baht equivalent RM120 perperson. Wait, please don't faint, listen to me. We got 2 tickets for 950 baht! That's RM95 for 2 person! No, we are not sitting waaayyyy at the back, in fact we are sitting on the third row! Great view for cheap tickets.
How? ;)
ESSENTIAL TIP (take note, take note!!!): To get (way) cheaper tickets, never ever head straight to Asia Hotel to purchase the tickets. Instead, go to any travel agencies (in Bangkok, duh~) in the morning and book your desired Calypso Cabaret show time and date. The best part is you can even bargain! :D We bargained, and we bought 2 tickets for 950 bahts! :p

The well-lited stage.
The crowd. :o
Excitedly him.
Equally excited me.
Each person is allowed to pick their own choice of free drink - tea, coffee, gin tonic or beer.
He chosed beer while I picked gin tonic. :) Mmm, free drink...

The Opening
OMG, they are prettier than me, okay?!? (Video courtesyfrom YouTube) My camera's battery were low and I didn't manage to snap each and every performance. I only managed to take pictures on remarkably interesting act.
The Opening ShowThis is a REAL man, mind you. ;)
Look at "her" smooth, zit-less, fair skin. OMG...
Extremely enjoyable performance.
Beautifully designed costumes.
I can even clearly see that they do not have CELLULITE nor STRETCH MARKS! For real!
The Chinese Ballad
The story of a wounded love. But she, the bride, stands up against all conventions. She fights to get back her freedom. No happy ending, but revelation! :(
Sad drama of a women who's gonna get married to the man she loved.
However, on her wedding day, he looked for another women!!!
She got so sad...
... she transformed into va-va-voommm lady and looked for revenge. In the end, she pulled out a pistol and triggered a fire.
The Ostrich Dance
Creatively choreographed ostrich dance!
Very very comical!
Yeah, those are man in HEELS.
Stars of Calypso
An appreciation to the big stars like Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Micheal Jackson and A Go Gos. The 15 of the best and highlight of the show.
Josephine Baker
Who is Josephine Baker? Check out wikipedia for more information on this famous entertainer in the early 90s.
Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) was an American expatriate entertainer and actress. She became a French citizen in 1937. Most noted as a singer, Baker also was a celebrated dancer in her early career. She was given the nicknames the "Bronze Venus" or the "Black Pearl", as well as the "Créole Goddess" in anglophone nations. In France, she has always been known as "La Baker".
I wouldn't know Josephine Baker was that famous! :o
And today is her birthday!
Geisha
You might not understand Japanese, but quickly you 'll understand, why our Japanese audience is cracking up, when this geisha hits the ceiling of comical expertise. Top of the class!
Yes, I agree with that, very very much! I was barely breathing cause I was laughing so hard!!! :D
Fantasy of Thailand
The beauty of classical Thai dance and our feeling for modern rhythm and movement. These two powers meet.
I Am Who I Am
(no no no, this is one of Guang Liang's song)
Cheerful dance with vibrant colors!
Arirang
Wherever you see a show in Asia, this standard is a must and a most beautiful one! 9 lovely girls in perfect unison. This Korean love song will stay with your memory.
No, it's not the end yet! There are more shows, but I am saving my battery for the last! Calypso Cabaret allows you to take pictures with the ladyboys for free, while other shows in town might charge you!
I enjoyed her performance the most, as her facial expression throughout the show were vivacious and lively.
Left: OUT of the range.
Middle: 100% looked like woman.
Right: 50 50.
I am getting nervous as my camera's battery going be drained soon!
Hey, hands off my baby!!!
Pick your choice and snap snap away...
Oooi, YOU, move your head off him! Move it!!!
Able to snap the last picture of the night before the battery died in front of me. We were exhausted, and so does my camera. Sigh... Our Day 2 were packed with Floating Market, Temple of Dawn, Temple of Reclining Buddha and Calypso Cabaret. We were worn out! The next I want is the bed. Zzz~~~

Walau eh, really "sexy" inside the show oh! Haha...
Mei-wah, at the end of the movie, a driver falls in love with Tony Curtis (dresed as a woman) and when he tells the driver that he is a man, the driver smiles and says, "Boays will be boys."
As for the women doing things with their bodies.... Sigh, I am sure I never need to watch such a show. M glad you had fun, tho'

very interesting and mind boggling article! I didn't know tiger show actually means "Thai girl" show! I watched such show before many many years ago when we went Hatyai. Gross like what you said, the girls use their vagina to perform all tricks.
Can do recording and take photos during Ah Quah show? =D I never watch Ah Quah show before. Wanted to watch but maybe that time we didn't know what to say and told the taxi driver we wanted to watch tiger show (we thought it was Ah Quah show) that's why. =( Saw many old Ti-Ko-peks at Tiger show, one using binocular to watch X-rated Movie on a tv in the theatre. =S
WHUA WHUA WHUA!!! so exciting wan wei... are those all DRAGS? as in ALL?
if me i laugh till pengz ah ahah!
Hi Meiwah! If I'm not mistaken, the Tiger Show is the gross show you were talking about, girls showing their (zzzz...) SOoooo... these pictures you posted here are from the Calypso Cabaret Show performed by the very talented and beautiful she-males... (which is different from the Tiger show, am I right?)
Haha... I read your post and I hope the Tiger show wasn't shown immediately after the Calypso Cabaret Show.
I missed the tiger show when I was in Bangkok!!! But I did buy a ticket for Cabaret show when I was in Hatyai. Those Katoey didn't look nice in the photos. They are "best viewed" when they are on the stage. But frankly, the one I watched has better quality. HAHA.
A great experience!!
where did u buy the tickets??
I'm gonna watch it next saturday n still have no idea where to buy..
any suggestion?
Hi there! I'm not sure on the name of the tour agency, as the taxi driver we hired recommended us there. Maybe what you can do is to enquire from taxi drivers/locals. Don't enquire from hotel's receptionist though as the ticket price are more expensive! :) Hope this helps.
