Underwater World, Langkawi

Great news: More photos coming right up!
Bad news: My pace are so slow, I believe that I'll blog on Langkawi for the rest of the year! :( I really need to speed it up, I think 99% of you got bored to death. Hey, I haven't start ranting about whole trip yet! *Argh~ don't toss rotten eggs please!*
___________________________________________________________________

If you ever come over to Langkawi, one place you must visit (and regret later) is the Underwater World. Ehem ehem, and according to their official website:
Come and discover Underwater World Langkawi, Informative and Fascinating. Take a virtual tour of Underwater World Langkawi, voted Malaysia's Best Man-made Tourist Attraction in the prestigious 1996/1997 Tourism Malaysia Awards! Visit our website and discover this one-of-kind aquarium in Asia, located on the legendary isle of mystical Langkawi.
Ehem ehem!!! One-of-kind aquarium in Asia? :o What about Singapore's Underwater World? I've been to Singapore's Underwater World, and Malaysia's "masterpiece" is nothing compared to them! Ah, try Aquria KLCC instead. :)

But anyway, as a Malaysian, I will support Malaysia's "one-of-kind aquarium in Asia" no matter what. But in the end of my round, I'm regret, disappointed, dissatisfied and unhappy.

We're hungry, we head to the nearest restaurant.
Vanakam, welcome to Palace of India~ :$

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Extra decor items to add to the Indian-ness fell.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Cheese naan, onion naan, and some-real-yummy-chicken-that-I-forgotten-the-name. This is the problem you will face IF you left your post backdated too long!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This. Is. Yummy!!! I craved for more~

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Both cheese naan and onion naan looked exactly the same from the outside. Therefore, I shall not waste my battery, energy, and 38-ness to take heaps of picture on NAAN, so I opt for 1 picture of Mr. Handsome Naan.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I love this picture cos I looked thinner, my face looked slimmer, complexion is brighter (lol~ cos I put "lighter skin tone" feature wtf) and everything looks better.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is where I looked slimmer and I am loving it wtf.

Off off here we go to the "amazing" Underwater World, Langkawi...
Set on 6.2 acres of land on the superbly landscaped beachfront of Pantai Cenang , Underwater World is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquaria in Asia. It features over 5,000 varieties of fish and other exhibits from 500 species displayed in over 100 tanks. Highlights include the gigantic hexagonal tank and walk—through tunnel tank containing six million litres of sea water. Here you can observe sharks, stingrays, huge turtles and other sea creatures swim by, separated from you only by the laminated clear glass walls of the tunnel.
Oklah, I admit it, I'm damn lazy to do the review, so I mai copy and paste lor... ;) Most reviews I read online were negative! Pictures are so random cos there are basically nothing I can snap on. Everything is so blah.

Random random pictures coming right up!!! :x

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Stingray... *slurrp* Ikan pari bakar (barbequed stingray) is so yummy!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I love this fish cos he's so tulan looking!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
White hammer-head sharks which have gone cuckoo (I think) cos he has been swimming rounds and rounds and rounds...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
White swan. Singular. Not plural. Pink flamingos on the other side.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The lazy anaconda. I hate the movie Anaconda shown in the big screen few years back. I hate how they portray the Anaconda as a vicious snake who is always hungry and can never be satisfied. The real anaconda is actually very slow on land. They can go very fast only on water. And once they are full, they will hibernate until they got hungry again. That is when they'll look for food. Not like what they shown in the movie - ala man-eating-machine wtf.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Took the picture of the palm tree cos I dunno what else to take.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Random noisy bird.
Psst... and did anyone noticed that I got lazy and didn't put the"Mei Wah" in the photos anymore? Kekeke... speaking of laziness, I'm a good example.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Random parrots. *duh*

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Random bunch of fishies in a greenish-packed-full-of-moss aquarium.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Flamingos. I believe that they are actually taking their nap!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Angsa Putih = Muted Swan.
Aren't muted means bisu? Then it should be called Angsa Bisu in Malay wtf.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Red eyed monster~

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
*Cheng cheng cheng... dirty aquariums ladies? Have no fear, the Moss Man is here! Guaranteed to clean the moss off your aquarium, or your money back!*

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My favorite animal - seal. I actually cried when I saw them swimming from left to right, and back from right to left. Continuously. Whole day. The area are so small, they have no other place to explore. :( I am damn sure they miss their REAL home. And I saw the other seal (injured, on the land) CRYING!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
What do future lies for them? Sigh... The man at the back were spraying away their pee and shits, into the pool!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And what they did? Jump into the pool of their very own pee and shits. Poor penguins.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I can't believe myself that I actually shed tears for the seal and penguins.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Seal said, "Save my home. Recycle and stop using plastic bags! Sob... sob... :(".

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
"Have you found my son, Nemo?"

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
"Oh, you are looking for your son, Elmo!!!"
Wtf, I am being so random random.

This is the low-cost aquarium. Fill it with water, put some motor, fishes, stones, chemical etc etc, and as decoration - place 2 log and tadaa... :D "One-of-kind aquarium in Asia".

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is even more pathetic: 1 aquarium with 1 stingray, accompanied with 2 plastic seaweeds decorations.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
"She sells sea shells by the sea shore..."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Mini park which has nothing worth to look about.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Koi fishes which are so common...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Very very cute kind of mini-crab! Don't you think so? :$

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Puffer fish that did not puff.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Ugly geli tentacles... Eww~~~ :#

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And some hairy fat crab species who's waiting for his beloved to come out of the hole and forgive him wtf.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Neon yellowish-greenish fish!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Umang-umang (what do you call this in English?) who changes their shells as often as we change our clothes!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Same critters, different clothes.

Dory said, "I think I found Elmo!".
Who doesn't know what am I talking about? Who didn't watch Finding Nemo???

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Dory said, "I think Elmo's over therrreeeee..."

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Nemo's over heeerrreeee!!! I think I've been TOO random this time. Better stop it.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I love this shot the MOST! Fragile, yet deadly. ;)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Another tulan looking fish.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Ugly looking octopus to end this trip!

Phew... that's the end of it! :) For you who have been to Singapore's Underwater World (or any other place's Underwater World), please don't waste your time, money and precious fuel to come to Langkawi's. It's a total regret.

Read the following Yahoo Travel reviews (some positive, mostly negative) from other visitors:

A complete waste of time
By Spanimal, 06/11/08
Most of the big fishes here had died. Very poorly managed place. Cost about US$13 to get in. But needs to have a little more stuffs to see. I strongly discourage anyone from wasting your money here and breaking your heart here.

Try Aquaria in KLCC. Top notch!

Nothing New
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/16/08
Nothing big for me and I've seen it all before. I suppose its good on Langkawi because there isn't actually much to do on the island.

Very Good
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/06/08
There are many aquatic animals in this place, even greater than Aquaria in KL.And is a place for your research(if you are a student). It's busy during the school holiday and public holiday.

Love the Penguins.
By Asha M, 09/15/07
The Underwater World in Langkawi is a must-see attraction in this idyllic island. Conveniently located near Pantai Cenang (where a string of hotels are nearby) it is a fun trip for the kids to learn about not only the fishes, but nature in general. Your journey begins with a walk into a flora and fauna enclave, there are flamingos and parrots amongst them. Next, you go through rows of aquarium, various fishes on display including piranhas! There is a tunnel where you can walk along with the fishes swimming above your heads, this will thrill the kids. The highlight of this place is the Penguins. You can watch them eat, walk that famous walk or just stand and stare. It's very cold where they are, only thing missing is the ice cap!

Place to Hide from the Sun
By Chao Chih, 04/17/07
Nothing much to see, most of the fish or animal you can see anywhere easilly. It is too espensive for Malaysia RM28. This is a good place to visit if out there is very hot sun. The Free Tax shop next door is a ideal place to shop before leaving. The price is average lower then the free tax shop at Kuah town.

kidi stuf

For me its a new experiance, for my wife it was one of the best things in Langkawi, therefore it depends on your liking and dislikings. there is only one special thing over there and that thing is there tunel acquarium, but you can find even a bigger one in Kuala Lumpur (Suria KLCC).

FANTASTIC!!! A MUST SEE !!!
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/05/06
One of the best places we visited on our holiday to Malaysia. It is a bit pricey to get in but dont let this put you off a very worth while visit. REALLY!

The set up is fantastic, informal and relaxed you feel as if you are on another planet the entire time you are in there. So many different animals, fish, reptiles etc to see. A great place ...

is it??! u wanna take in Sabah? i really wanna do it, gal. but i heard it takes quite sometime to complete it eh...cant wait. i am more interesting in underwater world rather than climbing mountain

Mei-Wah said...

dear R: yes yes, there are different stages. the 1st stage will be Open Water Diving. PADI license is well known world wide, therefore it is more expensive. there's another license too: NAUI. i wanna collect more ppl for taking this course, you in? :) i hope you do! you love the sea more than the mountain? so do i... the sea is full of mysterious waiting for us to explore... :D

Roses said...

yeah. count me in. but before that, i still need to know the surface detail. price n where u gonna do it?!?! stuff like that...if u happen to know la...
Open Water DIving is the basic one....after that have to go to Pro level which allows u to dive at night, if i am not mistaken...
i wanna get sun-burnt...woo hoo
